Use AI, But Use It Wisely
Your business needs an AI usage policy—here’s why.
Let’s face it—AI is everywhere. It’s in your inbox, your meeting software, your slide decks. It’s drafting content, organizing projects, and (maybe without you realizing it) analyzing your client calls.
But here’s the catch: just because it’s easy to use doesn’t mean it’s safe to use.
In this LinkedIn Live, I broke down why every expertise-based business—whether you’re solo or running a small team—needs an AI usage policy to stay competitive and compliant.
This isn’t just about data privacy or legal fine print. It’s about protecting your reputation, your client relationships, and your intellectual property as you scale.
Let’s talk about what’s really at stake.
Legal & Ethical Risks Are Real
You can’t copyright AI-generated content. So if you’re using ChatGPT to create deliverables—think again.
Confidential client info can’t just be fed into tools unless you’re 100% sure of how they handle that data.
AI-generated mistakes? Your liability. And your errors & omissions insurance might not cover it.
Not All Tools Are Built Alike
Just because a tool is “secure” doesn’t mean it’s safe for your workflow.
Some platforms segregate your data. Others quietly roll it into training datasets shared across clients.
AI updates are everywhere—but how often do you check the new terms of service?
💡 Use AI—but know when and how. AI is a powerful lever, but without clear policies, it can also be a liability.
That’s why I recommend that every business create a simple, well-defined usage policy.
Here’s what to include:
Approved tools and platforms (and when they’re okay to use)
Prohibited inputs (like client data, unless otherwise secured)
Guidelines for attribution, bias minimization, and system audits
Usage boundaries for team members and contractors
Ongoing review process for updates in tools and terms
Think of it like a subcontractor policy—but for the bots doing work on your behalf.
So, why bother? Because you’re building something sustainable. Because clients expect professionalism. Because your IP is worth protecting.
And because, like it or not, AI isn’t optional anymore. It’s here.
The question is: how are you using it?
Ask yourself:
Where in your business are you already using AI—without clear guidelines?
If your business runs on expertise, relationships, and trust, it’s time to put a policy in place that reflects that.
Use AI to amplify your expertise, not to compromise your integrity.
