Is AI Making You More Efficient—or Just More Disconnected?

What if your biggest challenge with AI isn’t legal, but emotional?

In this live conversation with authority strategist Erica Holthausen, we didn’t just talk about contracts or copyright. We talked about something harder to quantify—but just as important: the psychological, social, and environmental cost of generative AI.

Here’s what we explored, and what you should be thinking about, too:

Your relationship with AI is more layered than it seems. Use it too much, and you risk looking lazy. Don’t use it, and you’re behind. That’s not just tech pressure but it’s identity pressure. We need to normalize smart, values-driven AI use without shame.

AI isn’t a thinking partner. When we defer to it over our own judgment, we risk losing clarity. Nearly half of executives say they’d let AI make decisions for them. That’s not leadership—it’s abdication.

And this isn’t just about work. AI overuse reduces real-world connection and increases loneliness. Plus, the environmental impact is real: by 2026, data centers are projected to use more power than many countries.

Bottom line: If your name is on the work, the responsibility is yours. A disclaimer won’t protect you from reputational risk. That’s why you need an intentional AI usage policy internally and publicly.

So ask yourself:

Where are you outsourcing more than just tasks? Where are you outsourcing your judgment? What are the trade-offs (emotional, ethical, environmental) that come with how you use AI today?

And what would it look like to build an AI policy—not just for legal compliance, but for creative integrity?

Use AI as a tool. The moment you outsource your thinking, you’ve outsourced your authority.

P.S. This was one of the richest, most reflective conversations I’ve had on AI yet. If you missed the live session, you can watch the replay here.
